But still not saying “sorry.” That’s our PM. On the plus side, a referendum on reconciliation is a good thing, although long past due, but why now? Of course it’s the election. Howard’s been in power 11 years, and could have done this at any time. Although he’s continuing to stonewall on calling the election, claiming that the Liberals are busy governing, this is only something he’ll do if he’s re-elected. He could put it to a vote next week, when (if) Parliament is recalled. There’s plenty of time before he has to name a date for the referendum to be drafted and voted on, so this is a stunt, meant to deflect attention from the failures of the Northern Territory intervention and the fact that the government really doesn’t have anything to run on worth voting them back in.

Don't really care much about (or for, for that matter), Mr. Howard. Just want to see if this comment will post.
I tried to comment on the post on speeders and traffic a few days ago but it didn't work.

Yeah ... it will be a referendum like the failed Republican Referendum .. you know based on a loaded question that has been deliberately contrived to fail.
Remember this doozie ... "would you like to be a Republic" (to which the majority would have voted YES) ... "that looks like this" (to which the majority voted NO.
The greasy bastard will twist the words like he always does ! We will end up with a question crafted like this ..
"Shall we amend the Constitution to recognise indigenous Australians" (to which the majority would vote YES) ... "by granting them special special rights like this" (to which the majority will vote NO.
