Norse Mythology Needs an Upgrade
There will be twelve planets to learn about in schools, following a bonanza decision for textbook publishers by the International Astronomical Union. I only read about “Xena” a week or two ago, but I didn’t recall anything about Charon and Ceres. (And Ceres, o.k., she was a Roman deity, but wasn’t Charon just some other variety of supernatural being? There’s still Janus, Vesta, Juno, Minerva, and Vulcan, after all – although, yes, o.k., we’ve got to leave the Vulcan’s for later, don’t we? Given that we’ve already broken the pattern by going with Uranus, the Greek sky god, couldn’t we break out some other Hellenic names?)
