Green and Gold
Although it’s April, it’s September in my heart. The air cools, the rain falls, the nights are longer and darker . . . autumn is arriving. Strange, then, that the world is still so leafy and green, when all my years of seasonal change tell me the dying colors, the golds and reds and browns, should be turning the world crisp and sere and preparing the way for silvery greys that mute the stark black-and-white edges of winter. Some mornings getting up, it feels like going to school, and some days at three p.m. I feel like going home. Easter has always been an interim holiday for me, a period not summer, not winter, standing at the cusp like a gate to pass through into a new state. I don’t have any photos of my own or a place to offer them to the passing ‘blog browser, so it’s lucky that the Herald has Sydney seasonal snaps for those who’d care to have a look. Some of the pictures don’t say “Autumn” to me, but they must have to the editors. It’s a nice gallery of Sydney imagery all the same.
