We watched the first episode of Commander in Chief last night, and it was hilarious. (Yes, some would say “Hillaryous,” but they’re trolls.) Donald Sutherland was terrific. Of course, the back story is just silly: a Republican picking a female running mate, for example, let alone one who isn’t also a Republican, and then winning office? Never happen. Even if it did, it could only happen with the support of the party, so a line-of-succession revolt seems a bit of a stretch, at least not without a backroom deal to ensure Geena Davis never took the reins or wouldn’t get the nomination down the line. (Probably they’d have to kill her, but, hey, we’re talking about Republicans, right?) Still, the rest of the show was good; certainly the First Lady gags with her husband had me nearly incapacitated with laughter. I recall this is a cable-only show back in the U.S., which is too bad. More Americans could probably do with a little mass media exposure to a woman President in advance of the 2008 elections.
