Sign, or Else
The new federal industrial relations laws went into effect, and right away some workers were presented with the option of finding a new job or signing a new agreement, and it’s only getting worse as the days go on. We haven’t even gotten to the High Court challenge, but the exploitation has begun. And what happens if the High Court invalidates the legislation? Do these workers get their jobs back? Get their old conditions back? Or will they have to go to court themselves? The entire purpose of the law is to keep wages down through turnover, just like in France, although we’re not likely to experience the kind of protests they’re getting. Small business owners may benefit initially, but maybe not for long, at least not if they are actually being unfair, something they used to have to think about before acting. Meanwhile, if you want some fun, the on-going stoush over at Tim Dunlop’s place on this topic is awesomely appalling.
