A major highway improvement project is stalled because a colony of platypus is living in a creek along the road. Senator Bill Heffernan wants the road finished, but doesn’t regard the animals as worth holding up construction, although they are a protected species. Maybe he doesn’t think they’re real. Did I mention he’s a Liberal? Of course he is. Do any of them care for anything beyond the expedient?
