World Vision
They’re already a very popular charity here, if the evidence of various coffee bars and such displaying “all tips go to support our sponsored child” signs is anything to go by, and now the Australian public has donated – man, woman, and child – a dollar apiece: AU$20 million to support World Vision’s tsunami relief efforts, and this is on top of the money already raised since the disaster. It doesn’t sound like much when you say “a dollar apiece,” but consider that not all are actually capable of making a donation: children, pensioners, the indigent. For all the instances of pundits quoting Stalin’s cynicism (“one death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic”), it appears that we all really can act collectively to the benefit of others.
