Honesty in Government
Finally, a politician willing to come out and say that the data collected for the government “Smart Card” ID will be sold, without recourse by individuals to change or prevent it. It makes sense, too, because that way, not only does the government get a new revenue stream from handing over our data to mailing list companies and direct marketers, but Coles will be able to track your purchases and turn you in to the government if you exceed the daily calorie intake established by Health Minister Tony Abbott, or Hoyts can let them know if you go see movies like Paradise Now, or ANZ Bank can inform Parliament of foreign exchange transactions. Or more likely, they can use the information to send you some junk mail.
But at least Joe Hockey’s honest about it.
