Resignation Redux
After Bob Carr resigned, I wondered what the effect might be on Labor’s hold on NSW, but perhaps I worried needlessly: the opposition leader, John Brogden, has also quit, although only as Liberal leader, not as an MP. While he offers six beers in quick succession as a bit of cause-and-effect, he doesn’t seek to excuse his behavior, and his apology and stepping down from the leadership are honorable actions in themselves. He might have done both before he got caught out, but it’s not worth quibbling over. In any event, he wasn’t a particularly effective opposition leader, reduced as many such are to complaining more than offering alternative solutions, and Carr’s departure and his successor looked to make things more difficult for Brogden rather than less. Well, assuming Morris Iemma can get the trains to run better. And the hospitals.
