Homework
List mania continues unabated, but at least this time there’s something to be said, on my part, for the list as resource: The Australian Society of Authors has complied the top 40 Australian authors, ranked according to the public’s taste for particular publications, among which I’ve already managed to read 5 (a whopping 12.5%). Of course, none of the Australian novels I’d ever read before my international romance commenced are on the list. Native guidance is clearly indicated in selecting from the literature of a country, and now I have the nation’s definition of where to begin. I suppose I’ll continue my Peter Carey, Tim Winton, David Malouf progress, but I’m surprised Thomas Keneally isn’t on the list at all (even if all I really know of him is his movies).
