No, don’t. In the city, dogs belong on leashes. In fact, they belong on leashes most places. Your dog is not a wild animal, and while he needs exercise, he also needs to be minded. Dog owners have a responsibility to the community in regard to cleaning up after their pets and keeping them from harassing or harming people and other animals, but also in regard to their dogs themselves. Your dog does not want to be hit by a car, does not want to get into a fight, does not want to get lost, picked up and taken to the pound and subsequently destroyed because you were too stupid to use a leash and did little more afterward than put up flyers in the immediate area where you irresponsibly lost him or her. Dogs are working animals, not playthings to be discarded when you get bored, but if you insist on having a pet, and your pet needs to go running, run with your dog. On a leash.
